George Marinos spent more than 60 years collecting military artifacts, all of which are on display at the Battlefield Military Museum, a building at the south end of town that has a WW2 era High Speed Tractor in front. George and his family operated the museum at 900 Baltimore Pike since the opening in 1963. George's son Speros took over the operations after George's death. In early 2025 the facility moved to a new location at 1885 Baltimore Pike. They  have the largest collection of authentic military artifacts in Gettysburg, with 10,000 items. More than 7,000 of the war relics are from the Civil War, and they include uniforms, weapons, photos, flags, medical kits, and more. Many pieces of the Civil War collection are from the Gettysburg struggle, including the medical kit of Gettysburg’s only doctor at the time, Dr. Tate. The main floor is dedicated to 200 years of military history with displays of artifacts from the Revolutionary War to Vietnam.  Here you can see gas masks from WWI, the WWII uniforms of actor Jimmy Stewart and Gen. Hap Arnold, and a letter an American soldier wrote home on Hitler’s personal stationery. There is also a large collection of Nazi Germany artifacts and uniforms. All displays are behind glass, and the museum is open weekends only and by appointment. An inviting relic shop greets you as you enter the building, where some relics, Gettysburg memorabilia, and other cool stuff can be purchased. Admission to the museum is FREE OF CHARGE.
